ABOUT YIANNIS

Yiannis has been writing songs since the age of 11 and singing to live audiences since the age of 15.  Throughout his early life and education, acting played a big part.  The most commendable was a four-week stint at the Edinburgh Festival in August 1997.  The production of ‘The Trial’, a Kafka play adapted by Steven Berkoff in which Yiannis played a major role, received a five star review in The Scotsman newspaper and won The Guardian International Student Drama Award granting the cast the opportunity to perform the acclaimed production at the Battersea Arts Centre in London.

Whilst at University studying for a Media and Performance degree, Yiannis had the opportunity to record some of the songs he had written both alone and in collaboration with musicians.  On his return from University he had interest from a production company who produced a single for him in 1999 which was aired on local radio station Active FM.  Around this time Yiannis also began singing professionally as a solo artist and is still doing so at the present time.

In 2000 Yiannis was part of a male/female mixed pop band called Exces5ive who performed at, amongst other venues, the London Astoria.  Following the split of the band in 2001, Yiannis worked with various producers and compiled his first album which was a collection of selected material written over a number of years.

In April 2001, Yiannis embarked on a two-month tour of Cyprus as part of a singing and dance production with seven other performers.  He notes: “It was great experience being part of an ensemble piece like that; we had so much fun, as well as a few nightmares!”

In April 2003, as part of the Help a London Child campaign, Yiannis was interviewed live on Capital FM by DJ James Cannon and granted two minutes of airtime to sing an excerpt from his own original song ‘The Power Of…’ acappella.  The song has since been re-vamped and fully produced and is now the opening track of Yiannis’s second album Depth Of My Design.

Also in 2003, Yiannis received widespread television and press coverage when he was one of the top 75 finalists of Pop Idol Series 2, after beating out competition from over 20,000 applicants.  His press coverage included three national newspapers and the front pages of two local newspapers.  In addition to appearing on both the TV shows Pop Idol and Pop Idol Extra on numerous occasions throughout the series, Yiannis was also invited to be interviewed on morning TV show ‘Rise’.  An interview and an excerpt from an original song were also aired on Essex FM in September 2003.

Before October 2006, Yiannis had not recorded for quite some time, but had been writing lyrics and melodies throughout.  With an abundance of material ready to be produced, he financed the production of his second album Depth Of My Design, which became available for purchase in February 2007.  The album includes tracks that have become real favourites among his audience.

In January 2007, Yiannis was approached by songwriter Chris Arnold who wrote, among many songs, the Barry Manilow classic hit ‘Can’t Smile Without You’.  Chris expressed great interest in using Yiannis’s lead and backing vocals to demo one of his new tracks.  Yiannis was employed as a session singer, successfully recording the song on January 31st and being commended by Chris and his team on the results.

Throughout the remainder of 2007, Yiannis wanted to maintain the momentum by continuing to work on new music and to further develop his sound.  The new album, Lasting Impression, marks his growth both as an artist and songwriter.  The album is a mix of genres, including 3 ballads, but leans predominantly towards commercial dance driven electro-pop.  For further information, please click on the Albums link below

So where does Yiannis see himself going from here?  He asserts: “I’d be lying if I said I don’t want to be a hugely successful recording and live artist enjoying a very lucrative career.  The desire to be a star will never leave me and I will continue to strive for that, but, I really am open to exploring all avenues and opportunities.  I realise now more than ever that I just get so much from making music and want to reach a point where all aspects of what I do musically become my full-time career.  In the meantime, I want to get my music heard by as many people as possible, and hope to touch people in the same way that I have been touched.  I love writing songs and recognise that it is one of my strengths, so if you need a songwriter or you’re looking to manage/sign/publish a singer-songwriter, employ a session vocalist or book a live artist then please get in touch.  If you’re here to listen to my music and buy the albums, then that’s great and please go right ahead!  Whatever your reasons for contacting me, feel free to e-mail or send me a message through my contact page; I’d be happy to hear from you.”
